About

The Cabrini family has been making beautiful wines in Mendoza, Argentina since 1918. We're one of the only wineries in Argentina with over 100 years of history that's still 100% family-owned and operated.

Scroll down to learn more about our winery, vineyards, traditional winemaking methods and the story of our family from the foundation of our winery in 1918 until the present day.

Hola, great to meet you!

Hi there, I'm Leandro Cabrini, part of the 5th generation of the Cabrini family and I'm very proud to share with you our wines from Mendoza, Argentina.

Ever since I moved to the UK in 2015, I've wanted to bring our wines.

In 2022, as my wife, Camilla, and I prepared for our wedding in London, we knew we wanted bottles of Cabrini on the tables for our guests to enjoy, and so I got to work importing our Malbec.

A few months later and after a lot of hard work, the first cases are finally available to purchase in the UK.

If you have any questions, drop me an email at leandro@cabriniwines.co.uk and I'll be happy to help.

I hope you enjoy our wines. Salud!

Our Story

1918 | 1st Generation

Our founder, Don Leandro Cabrini, arrived in Argentina from Emilia Romagna, north of Italy, in the late 19th Century. He first settled in 1896 in Buenos Aires and moved to Mendoza in 1900.

After a few years managing vineyards in the area, in 1918, Don Leandro purchased his first piece of land and planted 6 hectares of Malbec vineyards in Perdriel, Luján de Cuyo, part of the Mendoza province.

Two years later, in 1920, he built the winery and family house in the same plot of land, still owned by the Cabrini family to this day.

1939 | 2nd Generation

Don Leandro had two sons: Guillermo and Luis. They were both born in Italy but emigrated to Argentina after Don Leandro was settled. They planted new vineyards and the production capacity of the winery was increased over time. By this time, our wines started reaching new markets in other areas of Argentina outside Mendoza.

In 1939, Guillermo, a Salesian priest, convinced Don Leandro to produce a mass wine. The first 1,900 liters were made in a barrel that is still used to produce this traditional wine and is still at the winery to this day.

Don Leandro continued working at the winery until 1956, when he passed away at 94 years old.

1956 | 3rd Generation

During the 1950s, the sons of Don Luis Cabrini, Eliseo, Jorge Guillermo and Juan, 3rd Generation of the family, continued the family legacy. They introduced new wines: Refosco, Lambrusco, Raboso, Pinot Noir, Semillón, Gran Solera & more.

With the opening of new railway routes across Argentina, distribution of the wines increased and the family acquires a wine warehouse in Buenos Aires, managed by Guillermo and Juan.

Unfortunately, tragedy hit the family when Guillermo and Juan died trying to save a worker who had fall into a vat and was asphyxiated by CO2.

Losing two brothers and one of their workers in Buenos Aires was a huge hit for Eliseo and Jorge and the whole family. They decided to close down the Buenos Aires operation to focus on running the winery in Mendoza.

Eliseo and his brother Jorge continued in charge of the winery until the 1980s, when the 4th Generation, Don Eliseo’s sons, started taking care of the family business.

1984 | 4th Generation

From the mid-1980s, Fernando, Hugo and Mauricio, Eliseo's sons, took charge of the family winery.

Under their management, the winery achieved its first international sales in the 1990s, reaching the US, UK, Europe and Asia.

They also acquired a new vineyard in the Uco Valley, making Cabrini Wines more diverse and strengthening our range and winemaking options.

The 4th Generation of the family is currently in charge of running the winery with the support of the 5th Generation.

2007 | 5th Generation

Around 2007, the 5th Generation of the family started participating in the winery, taking different roles.

After graduating as an oenologist at the University of Agricultural Science in Mendoza and a couple of vintages in the South of France, Victoria became our winemaker.

Danilo and Leandro, Fernando's sons, took care of local distribution, marketing and sales.

Present Day

Danilo and Leandro, Fernando's sons, emigrated to the UK in 2019 and 2015 respectively. They're currently spreading the love for Cabrini Wines in the UK and the rest of the world, alongside Leandro's wife, Camilla.

The first cases of Cabrini Wines are expected to land in the UK in October 2022, marking the beginning of an exciting new chapter for the Cabrini family.

Winemaking

We believe minimum intervention is the key to producing great wines which is why we try to keep things as simple as possible.

Our grapes are hand-harvested and no chemicals are used in our vineyards.

Once in the winery, the grapes are sorted by hand, crushed and fermented using indigenous yeasts.

Our wines are stored in cement vats and stainless steel tanks before bottling.

After our wines are bottled, they're stored in our winery before they are ready to be shipped.

Winery

The winery is located at Ruta 15, Km 22 in Perdriel, Luján de Cuyo, province of Mendoza in Argentina, at the foothills of the Andes. This place is called "Primera Zona" (First Zone), because terroir is extremely suitable for the vines, especially Malbec.

Our founder, Don Leandro Cabrini, chose this place to plant his first 6-hectare Malbec vineyard in 1918. Two years later, the first part of the winery was built along with the family house that still remains as a museum for the visitors.

The winery has kept the same classic format that it has had since it was first built, although new areas have been added over time. As part of our tours, you can visit the Casa Familiar, where Don Leandro Cabrini lived his whole life.

90% of the fermentation and storage of our wines before bottling is made in large cement vats, allowing the wines to naturally evolve. The remaining 10% is made in stainless steel tanks. This way, we are able to produce wines with stunning freshness.

After bottling, our wines are kept in a naturally temperature-controlled room, allowing the wines to fully develop and keeping them alive and fresh until they are released.

Vineyards

Our vineyards are located in Perdriel and Ugarteche in Luján de Cuyo, and Tupungato in the Uco Valley, with a total of 50 hectares planted, between 900 to 1300 metres above sea level. This is beneficial for the concentration of colour, aromas and characteristics needed to produce beautiful wines.

Our vineyards in Mendoza are planted in desert conditions, between the Andes Mountains in the West and the Argentine plains (Pampas) in the East. The water used to irrigate the vineyards comes from the melting ice of the mountains. Because of the extremely low rainfall and desert conditions of Mendoza, there are few disease issues and the use of chemicals is not needed, making Mendoza the perfect place to produce high-quality wines.

  • Perdriel

Our oldest vineyard, planted in 1918 by Don Leandro Cabrini. This 6-hectare vineyard is perfect for the production of high quality, concentrated and complex wines.

  • Ugarteche

This is our youngest vineyard, planted in 1970 and is located 20km south of Perdriel. This 8-hectare vineyard produces some of our most powerful and ripe fruit.

  • Tupungato

Tupungato is located 80km south-west of Mendoza city and it's considered one of the best places in Argentina to grow vines. Our 36-hectare vineyard, planted in 1957, is located here.
